| I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.Philippians 3:14, HCSB
Every now and then, a football team will string together a season of surprise victories on the backs of a wide-open offense and a renegade pass rush. Fans will flock to the games, reporters will descend on the campus, front pages will flash their colors and accomplishments. But somewhere in relative obscurity, another team will be turning their usual brand of rugged discipline, quiet confidence, and basic, fundamental football into simple, unspectacular wins. 14-10. 20-17. 10-8. Nothing all that special for the 10 o’clock highlight reel. Just another win. Like expected. And five years later, when the glitter and sparkle of that Cinderella team has faded into a frustrating 5-and-6 finish, the boys who just block and tackle and run dives up the middle will be in the hunt for another championship. That’s just the way it is. So don’t be discouraged if your victories don’t win you the chance to stand in the pulpit or get applause from the crowd. Your coach likes the way you play when you give Him consistent performance. This Week’s Look-Up Verse This devotional is courtesy of One Minute Bible for Starters.
